To make it easier for students to know how to access care at the Engemann Student Health Center, this guide shows you what to do depending on if you need primary care, acute care, or are experiencing an emergency.
Accessing Our Services
For routine medical care where appointments can be made in advance. The focus is to identify and treat most common medical illnesses and injuries. Your medical issues are assessed and referrals to medical specialists are made when necessary.
Most patients can have their needs met with our primary care services, but sometimes there is a specialized need. You can be referred to a specialist by a primary care physician. Our specialized services include the allergy clinic, chiropractic and dermatology. See the Specialty Care and Services section for a full list.
For urgent, but not life-threatening, medical concerns, you are welcome to walk-in during business hours. The Acute Care Center is on the first floor of the health center. A Registered Nurse will evaluate your condition and you will be triaged based on severity of illness. Wait time will vary, depending on patient volume, so your cooperation and patience is appreciated.
The Engemann Student Health Center does not have an Emergency Room, please call for an ambulance or paramedic assistance right away. Be prepared to identify your location and situation. Please call 9-1-1 for an emergency.
The Engemann Student Health Center is here to guide you in obtaining after-hours care when you aren’t feeling well or experiencing a crisis. Please call (213) 740-9355.
Our facility is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc., staffed by licensed and/or board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, a dietitian and nurses who will address your needs in a compassionate and confidential manner.
